Girl Scout Program: Introduction to Horses

To provide a two hour introduction to horses which is instructive, safe and fun.

Early in the session, riders will learn about care of the horse, grooming and tacking. We will review “safety” around horses and give a brief riding demonstration. Depending on the number of participants we will divide the group into 2 or 3 sections. One group will ride ponies or horses in the indoor arena while the other group(s) do hands on learning about the care of horses. The groups will switch ½ way through to allow all the girls a riding opportunity. If we have time and it is a nice day we have gone out on short “trail rides”.

What to Wear

Jeans! (Shorts are very uncomfortable to ride in!) Boots or hard shoes with heels are preferable to soft shoes. Sandals with no toes are not suitable!  Hard hats must be worn when riding. If you don't own one, we will provide one.

$35 for each girl scout. We need to know roughly what the group size will be to arrange for the appropriate number of instructors and horses.

To reserve your time: Please return the attached registration form with a $50 deposit.

A liability waiver for each child must be presented at the beginning of the “lesson program” in order for the child to participate.

We look forward to having your troop come to Old Stone!
